Which will get a better yield and product for a small, indoor grow?

You'll get more, a lot more with hydro. Soil is easier to manage.
If it's your first grow, go with soil and once you know what you're doing move on to hydro. Soil is more forgiving.

Or try a passive Hydro.... Like IRB... Internal Resevoir Bucket (also called a Hempy bucket)
Take a bucket... Drill a hole 2" up the side as a drain... fill it with a mix of media... Lots of things will work, but I like 2 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite.
Plant your plant in it and water with hydro nutes... grows like hydro... easy as soil.

This idea sounds very interesting, have you done a side by side comparison or anything? I might try this next time.
